Data Analyst Salary in India: What the Job Pays by Experience and City

Updated September 2026

A data analyst in India earns roughly ₹5.8–7.2 LPA on average in 2026, depending on which salary site you ask: PayScale puts the average base at ₹5.77 LPA, Glassdoor at ₹6 LPA, Indeed at ₹6.29 LPA, and AmbitionBox gives a typical range of ₹6.5–7.2 LPA. The full spread is much wider: Indeed's typical range runs from about ₹3 LPA to ₹13 LPA, and AmbitionBox puts the top 1% above ₹23 LPA.

The average also hides the variable that matters most in India, which is who you work for. On AmbitionBox, the same "Data Analyst" title averages ₹4.2–4.6 LPA at TCS and ₹9.5–10.5 LPA across financial services. Below are the numbers by experience and city, with each source named, and then the reasons one analyst earns double another.

The overall range, source by source

All figures below were checked on 27 September 2026.

Source What it reports Based on
AmbitionBox Typical range ₹6.5–7.2 LPA (0–6 years); top 10% earn more than ₹11.5 LPA, top 1% more than ₹23.1 LPA 1.5 lakh reported salaries, updated 24 Sep 2026
Glassdoor Average base ₹6 LPA; base range ₹5–10 LPA; about ₹70,000 a year in additional pay on average Employee-reported salaries
Indeed Average ₹6.29 LPA; typical range ₹3.05–12.95 LPA 605 salaries from job postings, updated 20 Sep 2026
PayScale Average base ₹5.77 LPA; 10th–90th percentile about ₹2.9 LPA to ₹10 LPA 2,389 salary profiles, updated 10 Jul 2026

The four don't agree, and they aren't supposed to. Indeed reads salaries off job postings. The other three collect what employees report, and each has a different mix of employers behind it. AmbitionBox's data leans heavily on IT services: 47,100 of its data analyst salaries come from IT services and consulting firms, the lowest-paying large segment, which pulls the average down. So read the band, not any single number, as the national picture.

AmbitionBox also reports a 17% rise in the average data analyst salary between 2024 and 2026. For comparison with the US market, where averages sit in a different currency and cost structure entirely, see the US data analyst salaries guide.

Pay by experience

AmbitionBox publishes experience bands; PayScale publishes average total pay for its two earliest bands.

Experience AmbitionBox (average range) PayScale (average total pay)
0–1 year (fresher) ₹3.6–5.3 LPA ₹4.13 LPA (under 1 year, 576 profiles)
1–3 years ₹5.2–5.8 LPA ₹5.66 LPA (1–4 years, 1,588 profiles)
3–6 years ₹7.2–8 LPA —
6–9 years ₹7.8–11.4 LPA —

Sources: AmbitionBox, PayScale.

Two caveats. First, AmbitionBox's own table shows far fewer reports in the 0–1 and 6–9 year bands than in the 1–6 year bands, so those two rows are rougher. Second, the 6–9 year band overlaps the 3–6 band because analysts who progress usually stop being called "data analyst." Their pay shows up under senior titles instead. Title-based figures show that step: Glassdoor puts Senior Data Analyst total pay at ₹6–14 LPA and Data Analyst Manager at ₹12–23 LPA, and Indeed reports a senior data analyst average of ₹10.06 LPA. PayScale's later-career groups average ₹8.47 LPA base for "mid-career" (393 profiles) and ₹10.74 LPA for "experienced" (126 profiles).

At the very top, levels.fyi, which counts bonus and stock as well as base, shows a median of about $15,500 (the site displays US dollars) across 432 India submissions, with the 90th percentile near $35,600. Base-salary averages miss that upper tail.

Pay by city

City AmbitionBox (average range) Indeed (average)
Gurugram ₹7.3–8.1 LPA ₹8.21 LPA
Bengaluru ₹7.1–7.8 LPA ₹7.81 LPA
Noida ₹6.7–7.4 LPA ₹7.55 LPA
Hyderabad ₹6.9–7.6 LPA ₹6.76 LPA
New Delhi ₹6.8–7.6 LPA —
Mumbai ₹6.6–7.3 LPA ₹6.24 LPA
Pune ₹6.6–7.3 LPA ₹5.65 LPA
Chennai ₹6.6–7.3 LPA ₹4.64 LPA

Sources: AmbitionBox, Indeed.

Gurugram and Bengaluru lead on both sources. Past that, the sources split. On AmbitionBox the gap between the best- and worst-paying big city is under ₹1 LPA, while Indeed's posting-based figures spread from ₹4.64 LPA in Chennai to ₹8.21 LPA in Gurgaon. The honest reading is that city matters, but less than the employer. A Pune analyst at a bank's capability centre will usually out-earn a Bengaluru analyst at a services firm. To see which companies are hiring in each city right now, the India analyst jobs page lists live roles read from employers' own career pages.

What moves the number

Employer type, by a wide margin. AmbitionBox's company figures for data analysts, across all experience levels:

  • Large IT services firms: TCS ₹4.2–4.6 LPA, Infosys ₹4.5–4.9 LPA, Wipro ₹3.9–4.3 LPA, Cognizant ₹4.2–4.6 LPA.
  • Consulting: Accenture ₹5.7–6.3 LPA, Deloitte ₹7.2–8 LPA.
  • The top of its list: PepsiCo ₹17.7–26.1 LPA, Atlassian ₹17.6–25.8 LPA, Visa ₹14.2–21.1 LPA.

Glassdoor's medians put the same firms in the same order (TCS ₹5 LPA, Accenture ₹6 LPA, Deloitte ₹8 LPA). The top of the list is global companies with large India teams, including the global capability centres (GCCs) many of them run, plus product companies. IT services firms supply the largest share of AmbitionBox's reports and pay the least.

Industry. AmbitionBox's industry breakdown for the same title runs from financial services (₹9.5–10.5 LPA), banking (₹9.1–10.1 LPA) and software product companies (₹8.8–9.7 LPA), through management consulting (₹8.2–9.1 LPA), fintech (₹8–8.8 LPA) and internet companies (₹7.1–7.8 LPA), down to IT services (₹5.9–6.5 LPA), analytics and KPO firms (₹5.8–6.4 LPA) and BPO (₹4.5–5 LPA). Moving from BPO to banking roughly doubles the number without changing the title.

Skills, less than you'd expect. PayScale's averages for data analysts listing each skill: Excel ₹5.17 LPA, Power BI ₹5.72 LPA, SQL ₹5.96 LPA, Python ₹6.03 LPA, Tableau ₹6.04 LPA (PayScale skill pages). The spread from Excel to Tableau is under ₹1 LPA, and most profiles list several skills, so the categories overlap. Skills rarely earn a premium on their own. SQL, Python and a BI tool matter because they are what product companies, banks and GCCs screen for, and those employers pay more. The skills view on RealAnalystJobs shows which tools repeat in the postings you're targeting.

The fresher reality

Put the three sources side by side and a fresher data analyst in India typically starts around ₹3.5–5.5 LPA: AmbitionBox's 0–1 year band is ₹3.6–5.3 LPA, PayScale's under-one-year average is ₹4.13 LPA, and Indeed's "entry level data analyst" average is ₹5.15 LPA.

If your first offer is from a large IT services firm, where even the all-experience averages above sit around ₹4–5 LPA, expect it at or below that. That's a normal start. The mistake is treating it as your ceiling. The steep part of the curve in the tables above comes from switching into a higher-paying segment (banking, product, a GCC) after one or two years, far more than from annual increments at the first employer.

Two things help that switch: a resume that shows outcomes ("cut the weekly report from four hours to twenty minutes") rather than tool lists, and applying where the pay is. The resume audit flags the first; the job board shows which companies are hiring analysts now.

Business analyst and product analyst pay

The titles overlap in practice, and they pay differently. All three columns below are from AmbitionBox, updated 23–24 September 2026.

Experience Data analyst Business analyst Product analyst
Overall typical range ₹6.5–7.2 LPA ₹9.6–10.6 LPA ₹11.6–12.8 LPA
1–3 years ₹5.2–5.8 LPA ₹6.9–7.6 LPA ₹10.4 LPA average
3–6 years ₹7.2–8 LPA ₹8.7–9.6 LPA ₹13 LPA average

Two cautions on reading this. The product analyst figures rest on just 941 salaries, against 1.5 lakh for each of the other two titles. And product analyst roles concentrate at product and internet companies, which pay more across the board, so part of that premium belongs to the employer, not the title. The business analyst vs. data analyst guide covers how the two jobs differ day to day, and the product analyst job description covers what that role involves.

CTC vs. what reaches your account

Indian offers are quoted as annual CTC (cost to company). Dividing by 12 gives the gross monthly figure, so ₹6 LPA is ₹50,000 a month gross. What reaches your bank account is lower after provident fund contributions, professional tax, income tax, and any variable pay that's paid out later rather than monthly. None of the sources above publishes a verified in-hand figure for data analysts, so we haven't invented one. To estimate yours from a real offer letter, AmbitionBox's take-home salary calculator works from the CTC breakdown.

When comparing two offers, compare fixed pay first. A higher CTC with a large variable component can pay less in a normal year than a lower CTC that is mostly fixed.
