Fraud Analyst

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Fraud Analyst based in Portugal. As a Fraud Analyst, you will play a key role in protecting a rapidly growing digital rewards platform and ensuring users are accurately segmented based on legitimate activity and potential fraud. You’ll investigate evolving fraud patterns and turn data into practical detection and prevention strategies. Working closely with product, data, and analytics colleagues, you’ll help shape the signals and controls used to identify suspicious behavior. You’ll also contribute to verification strategies across different markets, adapting approaches to local requirements and fraud trends. The role combines hands-on investigation, analytical problem-solving, and operational decision-making. You’ll have the opportunity to influence product priorities while helping build a fraud detection system that evolves as user behavior changes. Accountabilities • Regularly review, evaluate, and refine fraud signals to distinguish suspicious activity from legitimate users, including indicators such as IP spoofing, VPN usage, and unusual gameplay patterns. • Own the fraud-related segments within the broader user segmentation system, determining how signals should be interpreted and monitoring the effectiveness of fraud categories over time. • Analyze emerging fraud patterns and proactively identify changes needed to detection rules, segments, and verification processes. • Partner with product teams to define and improve fraud verification approaches across different markets, considering solutions such as facial verification, ID scanning, and phone verification. • Investigate users and cases flagged for manual review, including ambiguous cases, and identify opportunities to make the review process more efficient and consistent. • Identify gaps in existing fraud signals and data sources, and recommend relevant third-party tools or solutions for the product roadmap. • Translate analytical findings into practical fraud controls and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure those controls remain effective as fraud tactics evolve. Requirements • Hands-on professional experience using data to investigate fraud and influence fraud detection or prevention decisions. • Experience designing, evaluating, or improving fraud signals, user segmentation models, detection rules, or manual review processes. • Strong analytical and investigative mindset, with the ability to identify patterns, anomalies, and gaps in available data. • Understanding of how fraud behaviors and tactics evolve, with an interest in continuously adapting detection strategies. • Ability to turn analytical insights into practical, operational fraud controls and recommendations. • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with experience working effectively with product, data, and other cross-functional teams. • Comfortable working in a changing environment where fraud detection approaches and verification methods need to evolve over time. • Professional English proficiency sufficient for meetings, documentation, tools, and written communication. • Experience with fraud detection tools, identity verification solutions, user-risk segmentation, or third-party fraud data providers is an advantage.
