Percentage change vs percentage points
Going from a 10% to a 12% conversion rate is a 2 percentage-point rise but a 20% relative increase. Mixing the two is the most common way a metric gets misreported — this tool computes the relative change; add or subtract the rates yourself for points.
Why CAGR, not the total
Revenue that tripled over four years grew 200% in total — but only about 32% per year compounded, not 50%. CAGR smooths a multi-period change into one comparable annual rate, which is the honest way to describe a trend and to compare two of different lengths.
CAGR hides the bumps
One caveat worth stating: CAGR assumes smooth compounding, so a line that crashed and recovered shows the same CAGR as one that grew steadily. It answers “what constant rate gets from start to end?” — not “how volatile was the ride?”
